Background
Operation Dost took its name from the word for 'friend' shared by Hindi, Turkish and Arabic. Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft carried National Disaster Response Force search-and-rescue teams with canine units, an Indian Army medical contingent that established a field hospital at Iskenderun, and relief stores. Consignments to Syria consisted principally of medicines and emergency medical equipment.
